After spending time sight seeing in Lewes, DE on the first day, the temperature rose to a warm mid 80’s on second and third days of our beach vacay and we were finally able to get some sand time in Rehoboth.
Day 2
On our second day, the plan was to get sandwiches from Frank and Louie’s–the best italian subs you will ever bite into–and eat, hang, and be merry at the beach. Everything was going peachy until Mr. Man started to eat sand by the fistful. I guess the sea-salted sand, like salt water taffy, is not so bad.

Day 3
On our third day, we decided to take another trip north. This time to Milton, DE, which was named by Southern Living Magazine as the one of the places to see for “Small-Town Weekend Getaways”. More significantly, for those in the know, Milton is the home of the Dogfish Head Brewery. Before we left Rehoboth, however, my extensive research found a donut place that makes fresh dunkers called Gooey Donuts. So, the plan was to gobble down donuts while we explored all that is good in Milton, DE. The tragic thing was, besides admiring the local pond, there was literally nothing to do in Milton. I mean nothing (sorry Milton) and this is me quoting few locals including the owner of the donut shop–who btw was super duper nice and gave us a (coconut covered chocolate donut) freebie. Kate must’ve flicked her hair at the guy.

Nothing better than a warm donut…NOTHING!

From there we headed due east to a small sleepy beach town called Broadkill Beach. The first thing we noticed when we got to Broadkill was the parking. Unlike Rehoboth, it was
free, albeit there were only 8 spaces for visitors. When we got out, we noticed a huge sand dune that rose in front of us, which we had to climb to get to the ocean. Later, I found out that this dune build-up was part of a $30 million dollar beach reclamation project already paid for by all of us.
Why didn’t anyone tell me I was doing such a good deed in Delaware?
Seeing what a real sleepy beach town is really like we were ready to bounce and head back to civilization and do what we do best…yes, that’s right, shopping! Which means we hit Kate’s favorite store, the Vineyard Vines outlet. Unlike Kate, who can never find clothes small enough in brick and mortar stores, I was able to score two pairs of shorts and a polo shirt for a discounted price just shy of $80–in B-more the three items would’ve cost over $225.

With shopping success fresh in my mind, we finally headed to the beach where the themes of the day were: sand castles, the great wall of Rehoboth, footprints, and chasing stuff.

As the day waned into the dinner hour, Kate and I talked about going to get Chinese at a place called Confucius, but we found out on Yelp that it was a “fine” dining Chinese restaurant. Being in swimming gear, the second best option we found was the
world-famous Chinatown Buffet & Grill. For those on a budget or if you have multiple kids like
Kate Gosselin, this all-you-can-eat is your place. All three of us got our fill of ice water, pseudo-Chinese, palatable sushi and fruit for the bargain price of under $30.
“Ni Hao! want some?”

A full day but a great day, and we still have three more to go. So far, I have to confess it has been fun and relaxing. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but as the Vineyard Vines guys always say, “Everyday should feel this good”.
